One hundred and eighty-four new students from the Stirling Digital Education College (SDEC) began their military training at Hebei Normal University on 31 August 2026. College leaders attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech, encouraging students to build resilience, develop self-discipline and integrate smoothly into university life through the training programme.
The initial phase of training focused on basic drill formations, including turns on the spot, marching on the spot and forward marching. Instructors broke down each movement systematically, providing detailed guidance on posture, stride length and arm swing to help students master the essential techniques. All trainees followed instructions strictly, responded promptly to commands and practised diligently, adapting well to the structured, high-intensity schedule and demonstrating a strong sense of discipline.
The College also organised dormitory management sessions, during which students followed military interior standards for bedding arrangement, item placement and public area cleaning. These sessions helped improve dormitory management and encouraged students to develop neat and self-disciplined living habits.
To ensure safe, orderly and efficient training, the University put in place comprehensive logistical support, setting up emergency supply stations at the training ground with drinking water, cooling supplies and first-aid medication. Student counsellors and class tutors remained on site throughout the training, monitoring students' physical and mental wellbeing and responding promptly to any issues to maintain a safe environment.
Military training is a key component of the freshman orientation programme. Over the coming days, SDEC trainees will complete all training modules with enthusiasm and perseverance, building resilience and teamwork skills as they prepare for the academic journey ahead.
